An Overview of Rose Water for Loc Care

Rose water is an astringent that helps prevent oily scalps, reduce dandruff, and eliminate bothersome frizz. It’s an excellent hair care product for anyone, but it’s especially beneficial for those with dry, curly hair or hair that produces too much oil.

You can find rose water in high-quality loc products or make your own simple version easily (we’ll teach you how later!).

Overall, rose water makes a great addition to almost anyone’s skincare and hair care routine.

How Rose Water Can Help Your Locs

Using rose water products for your locs can significantly benefit your hair and scalp. Rose water is an astringent that helps prevent your scalp from making too much oil — a problem that can lead to annoying loc issues like dandruff.

In addition, rose water contains many vitamins that can prevent inflammation. And because rose water acts as an anti-inflammatory, it can even help with skin conditions that affect your scalp!

Plus, even if you don’t need any of the benefits that rose water offers, you can’t argue that it doesn’t have an amazing scent.

The most significant benefits of rose water for your locs include:

  • Acting as an astringent to prevent the production of too much oil
  • Fighting against dandruff by stopping oil overproduction
  • Reducing inflammation with natural antioxidants to stop scalp irritation
  • Hydrating your locs to improve their shine and tackle annoying frizz
  • Promoting a healthy environment for your locs to help prevent hair loss
  • Using it for aromatherapy reduces stress and tension and alleviates headaches, allergies, etc.
  • Maintaining your hair’s pH balance to keep your locs healthy and strong.

Can I Use Rose Water on My Locs?

Luckily, rose water works great for any hair type or texture, including dreadlocks! With rose water’s benefits for managing oily scalps and hydrating dry hair, it’s an excellent choice for anyone with dry, curly hair that gets dried out too much using harsher astringents.

However, if you have extremely sensitive skin or have an allergy triggered by rose water — no matter how minor — you won’t want to use it on your locs.

Rose water is a safe and excellent way for most people to get healthier, stronger, and great-smelling locs in no time.

  • You can also make rose water shampoo and conditioner by adding rose water to your favorite cleansers!
  • Rose water sprays make it easy to mist your hair; this is the best way to get rid of frizz and get the most out of rose water’s amazing scent.

Can I Make My Own Rose Water Loc Products?

You sure can! If you can’t find a rose water product you love or need something to use while your advanced rose water spray ships, making your own is easy — although it won’t be as beneficial as products formulated specifically for locs.

To make a simple rose water spray, you’ll need about a half-dozen roses (the more fragrant they are, the better your rose water will smell!).

  • First, remove the petals from your roses and rinse them using warm water.
  • Next, place all of the petals in a stock pot or other large pot, along with enough distilled water to cover them completely.
  • Then, cover the pot and let your rose petals simmer for about 20 minutes (the rose petals should be losing their color by the time they’re ready).
  • Finally, strain the petals out and discard them.
  • Let it cool, and your rose water is ready to use! And don’t forget to store it out of the sunlight. It should last for around six months in an airtight container.
